    - Great for history buffs
Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites
Chief Vann House Historic Site image
During the 1790s, James Vann became a Cherokee Indian leader and wealthy businessman. He established the largest and most prosperous plantation in the Cherokee Nation, covering 1,000 acres of what is now Murray County. In 1804 he completed construction of a beautiful 2 ½ story brick home that was the most elegant in the Cherokee Nation. After Vann was murdered in 1809, his son Joseph inherited the mansion and plantation. Joseph was also a Cherokee leader and became even more wealthy than his father. In the 1830s almost the entire Cherokee Nation was forced west by state and federal troops on the infamous Trail of Tears. The Vann family lost their elegant home, rebuilding in the Cherokee Territory of Oklahoma. Today the Vann House survives as Georgia’s best-preserved historic Cherokee Indian home. A guided tour allows visitors to see the house which features beautiful hand carvings, a remarkable “floating” staircase, a 12-foot mantle and fine antiques. See more..
  2. 5.0 Emery Creek Trail (11 reviews)
    - Beautiful hike
    Hiking Trails
    Emery Creek Trail image
The trail was easy to find but the trail is not for small kids, small dogs or anyone winy. You drive about 1.5 miles in a dirt road access. Park and walk over some mud, rocks, multiple (10) creek crossings (about knee deep water) that can be slippery, climb through downed trees and end 3 + miles later at a beautiful 200 foot tall waterfall. It took us 1:30 to hike up and 1:20 to return. Bring water and snacks. Leave early. Follow the green tags on trees to stay on the trail. These tags can be challenging to find at the first creek crossing which is about 0.5 miles from the parking area. The first creek crossing very rocky. The rest of the hike is all woods Have fun See more..

Around late November/Early December there is a community event night with the official tree lighting. - Nice park to stay

    Fort Mountain State Park image
Beautiful state park in the mountains of north central Georgia. Lots of beautiful sites within the park. Some on top of hills, others near the water. Bathhouse was clean and plenty of soap and paper towels. Campground host was warm and friendly. Very young rangers at check-in were shy and bearly spoke over a whisper but friendly nonetheless. Weather was unseasonably cold! Low 30’s at night for mid-October See more..
  6. 4.5 Carters Lake Marina (39 reviews)
    - Lake day with family
Thursday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Boat Rentals
    Carters Lake Marina image
We rented a pontoon boat on July 13th originally but the weather showed a greater chance of rain this day. No issue at all to change the date to July 14th after sending an email. The pontoon boat was great…a Bentley and Teresa was very informative and walked us through the entire process. We thought when we rented there is no way we’ll spend the entire time on the lake…but we did. It’s beautiful surrounded by mountains and the water was refreshing. We took our lunch and had plenty of snacks and water to drink. It was really a fun filled day that we all enjoyed. Also not a large crowd of people on the lake which made us feel we had it all to ourselves. Would definitely recommend this place. See more..
