  1. 5.0 Brecksville Reservation (51 reviews)
    - Nice surprises off the beaten path
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Brecksville Reservation image
We’ve been visiting this park occasionally to hike for almost twenty years, and thought we’d seen everything here, but a few days ago we eschewed the usual starting point near the nature center due to the large crowds. So we parked at the stables and headed off down a closed road to the Ottawa Point picnic area, previously unknown to us. Past the picnic area we found ourselves on a segment of the Buckeye Trail that passes a camping area. It was magical in the early ( for Cleveland) Spring, with most trees still relatively unencumbered with view-blocking leaves, but with bright green foliage already visible on the gorge floors far below. The trail winds along an increasingly narrow ridge before taking a dramatic dip down into the valley. We had to cut our hike short at that point, but there is undoubtedly more and we shall return. 2. 5.0 Virginia Kendall Park (1 review)
    - Diverse Habitats with Trails
Hiking Trails • Cross-country Ski Areas
    Virginia Kendall Park image
This park which is part of Cuyahoga Valley National Park contains several trails through diverse habitats. The Ledges Overlook and Trail can be found toward the end of the park on Truxell Road - do not miss it! The rock formations through the forest trail are awesome! Kendall Lake is peaceful, but watch where you step - there are lots of geese! You can access Salt Run Trail from Kendall Lake. While you are in the vicinity, check out the Oak Hill area and the Wetmore area. Plenty of picnic areas and restrooms. See more..
  3. 4.5 Cuyahoga Valley National Park (879 reviews)
    - National Park in urbanized setting
    National Parks
    Cuyahoga Valley National Park image
Cuyahoga Valley NP is an unusual national park in several ways. While it has the usual scenic trails, natural beauty and history, it’s intermixed with towns, farms and especially roads, including the two interstates that bisect the park, and whose traffic you can hear virtually everywhere in the park. There’s a ski resort, an outdoor music venue and operating industry within the park boundaries, This is not, in other words, an isolated back country getaway, and it’s even unclear when you are in the park and when you are in a neighboring community. As a National Park, it’s pretty understated. The most interesting and unique geographic features are the “ledges” rock formations visible on a 2-mile hike. There’s also the picturesque Brandywine Falls and smaller Blue Hen Falls, and a beaver marsh; nice enough, but more like the kinds of features you see in state parks rather than in a national park. The park was originally a canal with industrial uses, and remnants of these and exhibits about this history are plentiful. A passenger train and towpath traverse the sprawling park and would be a good way to see it. Overall, it’s a park with nice hiking and biking trails, a river to paddle, and historic villages to enjoy, but it doesn’t have the incredible vistas and natural features of the most famous national parks. It also doesn’t have an entrance fee, which seems to be a recognition that it’s not a top tier national park. See more..

Course is in great shape. Greens are lightning. Fairways manicured with fair roughs. Play moved well. The Metroparks does a great job. Everything was clean. The starter knows how to space. The practice area is a real help. Fun but humbling course. See more..

  6. 4.5 Station Road Bridge (2 reviews)
    - My Favorite Place in Cuyahoga Valley National Park
    Bridges
    Station Road Bridge image
Station Road Bridge is a bike/pedestrian bridge over the Cuyahoga River where the Brecksville Reservation and CVNP come together near the train station. While this is a nice bridge, it is the views of the barreled arch bridge of Chippewa Road. This is a symbol for the park and for me the most beautiful space in CVNP. We crossed the bridge an walked the towpath trail under the big bridge. We also spent several minutes here looking at fish under the bridge in the crystal clear Cuyahoga. Sitting here it was hard to believe that you still can't swim or fish. However, the progress made in environmental restoration here in Cuyahoga Valley National Park is impressive and hopeful. In addition at the edge of the parking lot, the wildflowers were simply amazing. For me this is the best place to come in the park. See more..
  7. 4.0 Blue Hen Falls (88 reviews)
    - Waterfall hike
    National Parks
    Blue Hen Falls image
Located in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, this trail is a bit strenuous as it’s a pretty steep ascent in a short distance. We went when the trail was a bit muddy, so proper shoes are a must. There was some trail management under way when we were there, so I’m guessing it’ll be more easily hiked in the near future. Some steep steps, both rock and wood, were along the trail. There’s a short span along a roadway, and the trail wasn’t marked very well. Again, I’m guessing that will be improved soon. During most of the trail, traffic noise is very apparent. Once you arrive at the falls, all that traffic noise is drowned out by the roaring water. Even during the dry time that we went, it was still a pretty big falls and definitely worth the hike. There are clean restrooms at the visitor center below the trail, none anywhere else. Some rude dog owners left their baggies of poop along the trail - shame on them! Otherwise the trail was pretty clean. Definitely worth the hike! See more..
  8. 3.5 Deer Lick Cave Trail (2 reviews)
    - A short stop
National Parks • Caverns & Caves • Hiking Trails
    Deer Lick Cave Trail image
This is in the Brecksville Reservation Metro Park. There's a sign off the main road directing you to the cave. The parking area is very small. The "hike" is only a couple of hundred yards to an observation area. You can see all the caves. A short loop hike takes you down & around for a closer view. There is an incline to get back up.
