- 5.0 The Amana Heritage Society (1 review)
-Historic Treasure in High Amana
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites
Just 5 minutes from the main village of Amana is the quaintest old village store - looks just like it did in 1900 with locally made crafts, wooden items by local woodworker, books by local authors, real fun candy, old fashioned toys, some German Christmas ornaments and assorted "dry goods" types of funky stuff you can buy. This is where the communal era members shopped (they used coupons!) The store itself is very neat and talking with the storekeeper is informative. Lots of history here as its been the village store in little High Amana since just like it was during communal times. You can walk from here down to the Amana Arts Guild Gallery too. We spent about 40 minutes here then walked down to the Gallery to see exhibit of oil portraits. See more..
