   Stunning rain forest, it's easy to do a weekend trip from Kenema (the Gola Forest office is in Kenema and they can assist with accommodation, meals, guides etc). There are various options available, all very reasonably priced. Accommodation & meals are very basic so don't expect the Hilton :o) , but the stunning rain forest is definitely worth a visit. Depending where you stay the variety of animals you can spot changes, we saw monkeys and birds and the stunning trees and plants of the forest of course. Even though it was raining the first day it was still really worth it to go for a hike. A 'cultural' encounter with the villagers can also be arranged, so your program is all defined by what you'd like to do and how much time you have available. See more..

   A very good place to be . We travelled to Kambama and crossed the Moa River to Tiwai . we saw the Columbus Monkeys , heard the sounds of the monkeys , but We were unlucky to see the pigmyhippo. we stayed there for two weeks studying about nature i..e plants, animals , tourism etc. There is a research station for students who may lile to do research. Foods and accomondation are affordable. The tour guides and management are very kind and loving people. Tiwai island is part of the Gola Forest. See more..

   This has some unique features - community visits, nighttime nature walks, but note the safety precautions needed: - consider taking malaria nets if you are concerned about malaria control - take bottled drinking water - here is none there - check the state of the fibreglass boats before you go down the rapids (some leak) - food is good, traditional. Accommodation is variable - organise your own transport - we used theirs and it broke down. That said, Tiwai Island is a magical place. Aspiring to be world heritage site, and needing advocates and protection, it is community based, with a range of activities, community visits, night time nature walks, and boat trips. The famed pygmy hippo is here, but hard to spot. Easier to access than Gola rainforest, it gives a taste of Sierra Leonean traditional culture and wildlife. Stay several days. See more..
