Roy Geddes Steel Pan Museum image
In all honesty, I am not someone who greatly enjoys museums but I do have an appreciation for places of historical value. Roy Geddes' House is filled with history and memories. I was surprised how many things he managed to salvage over the years. As well as his talent I actually respect his attention to details. Besides the you can see and learn about in the house. The main draw is that you have Roy Geddes himself taking you on this tour. You get to hear his history directly from the horses mouth, and all for $10. I would highly recommend this tour See more..

    Demerara Harbour Bridge image
I was in Guyana my country of birth on vacation so I decided to explore my home land. The ride across a floating bridge is an amazing experience especially at low tide when the stop the traffic on the bridge and u look out at the vast beauty of Guyana. Make a day trip out of it and go visit parika Market. Take the bus from GT don't worry the drivers know the bridge opening and closing schedule so u will be OK. As you go across looking at the walking path and ask your self if u brave enough to try it. If u are walk to the middle from the west bank side look at the way the bridge floats on the demerara River and remember the time and year it was built and still in working order. It will make you appreciate the true nature of what was achieved by a so called third world country. See more..

  11. 4.0 Parliament Building of Guyana (27 reviews)
    - a neoclassical building
    Architectural Buildings • Government Buildings
    Parliament Building of Guyana image
The maybe grandest building in Georgetown and one of its best kept can usually not be visited, just admired from outside, from behind a tall iron fence. There is an information board about it, as is usual in Georgetown, where there is talk about the 'Public Buildings', as apparently the Parliament Buildings are also called. The cream-coloured structure dates from 1834. On the ground floor are arcades, on the upper floor white columns and in the middle is a portico with further back a dome. At a corner is a bronze statue, representing - as it says on a plaque at its feet - Hubert Nathaniel Critchlow, father of Guyana's trade unionism. See more..

  20. 4.0 Providence Mosque (2 reviews)
    - the city's main mosque is the Queenstown Jama Masjid
    Religious Sites
    Providence Mosque image
Tripadvisor has two mosques under the attractions of Georgetown, Guyana, and both are rather unimportant and not even located in the city proper. 'Providence Mosque' is in the community of Providence, well known for its stadium, and about 10km to the south of the capital. The 'Vreed-en-Hoop Mosque' is in the town of that same name, on the western shore of the Demerara, thus on the opposite side. If there is a mosque worth mentioning in Georgetown, especially since its two tall and octagonal minarets are visible from far, it is the Queenstown Jama Masjid in the district of Queenstown, which we passed, when walking along Church Street with its canal on our way to the Botanical Garden. The mosque looks quite new and in fact it is just a few years old, replacing a wooden structure, once erected by Afghan Muslims at the end of the 19th century. See more..

  25. 3.5 Georgetown City Hall (28 reviews)
    - Town Hall Georgetown
    Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings
    Georgetown City Hall image
This beautiful old building and landmark is in a terrible condition. It should be repaired before it collapses and is lost forever. Georgetown does not have innumerable notable sights - St George's Cathedral (also in a state of decay), the Queen Victoria Law Courts, Parliament Buildings, the Public Library and this Town Hall and these are all precious to the nation. Other Caribbean countries do not have such buildings and these are unique and a tourist attraction. The Town Hall should be repaired using greenheart which would last for a long time. See more..
  26. 3.5 Guyana National Park (21 reviews)
    - Guyana National Park and manatees
    Spent 2-3 hours National Parks
    Guyana National Park image
I walked to this park as it didn't seem far from my hotel in Quamina st. The only problem was the lack of sidewalks, and one has to be careful about the traffic. I went there to look for manatees in ponds; I did not see them , (I finally saw them in the Botanical Gardens), but there were lots of interesting birds (snail kites, egrets, limpkins, herons..). People go to this park to walk, jog, exercise. It is not secluded, and I felt at ease there. See more..

  28. 3.0 Guyana Zoological Park (162 reviews)
    - Not a huge zoo but good for the price!
    Zoos
    Guyana Zoological Park image
The four photos were taken on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011. It doesn't have all of the animals though, only some. But since the admission fee is maybe $1 Canadian/USD, why not... Plus you don't see some of these animals in Toronto Zoo so it's always nice to see different kinds in that case. Not a massive zoo but there is a park/playground for kids which is great. Near the zoo there is Botanical Gardens of walking distance.. Nice to see as well! See more..
  29. 3.0 City Mall (12 reviews)
    - Interesting
    Spent 2-3 hours Shopping Malls
    City Mall image
I always think the "inside" of this mall seems a bit like a futuristic movie set. There just seems a little to much jammed inside, somehow to tall and skinny with everything just stuck on top of each other See more..
