    Pago Pago Marine Charters image
The fishing is so good in American Samoa I had to go back and charter the Double Hook for a full week of Sport Fishing for the Gig Game Fish. We had a great time looking catching and loosing fish, we hooked six marlin and lost them all but we manged to put a lot of nice Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo and Mahi Mahi on the boat. The Double hook is a state of the art fishing vessel with more than enough room for six and best of all great air conditioning. Can't wait to go back and do it again. See more..

We had a great afternoon and dinner at Tisa’s. Tisa and Candyman are gracious hosts. The beach and snorkeling was great and the dinner and drinks were awesome. You do need to call ahead and make a reservation. This is a small, family-owned business and they can’t accommodate drop ins. If you are visiting Tutuila don’t miss Tisa’s!! See more..

National Park of American Samoa image
If ever you visit this Trust territory, this National sanctuary for many birds is very beautiful. No it's not a walk in the park. Be equipped with walking shoes, stick and fit to climb. It's beautiful but not for the weaker knee and unfit. But it's a eautiful habitat which is almost similar to the island itself. Make sure you visit the NP Office for instructions. And if it's rainy forgo till is a nice sunny dry day. You will need a car to get around in. The island is small but stretched out. It's warm and muggy at time, but it sure beats a cold dreary winter See more..

Had a great tour with Mike. He did an excellent job telling us about the history and culture of the island and taking us to several scenic sights. We also stopped for an excellent lunch (not included) with options for either local or typical U.S. mainland food for the unadventurous and a local market. See more..

Great information - can get your NPS passport book stamped here. I am not sure what is on the ground level, but it was under construction when we went - so entrance was through the back. Loved the school paintings that were on the outdoor wall against the back of the parking spaces. Rangers were very helpful both on NPS, and also other American Samoan tips (i.e. - the house across from the Starkist Tuna plant has a terrific lunch). Displays were nice. On a rainy day, there are videos available (we didn't watch - as there was too much to do outdoors). Saili Lou Paka - Find Your Park – America Samoa National Park! Thanks for the great memories American Samoa! PS. Clean nice bathrooms available. See more..

We wanted a short hike for after church on Sunday. NPS says it is 0.4mi, but it felt like even less. Nice jungle walk on the way to the coast. Beautiful view of Vatia Village and Pola Island from the end, and tide pools! I did it in slippers no problem. See more..

    - Remember that you are on a isolated Island.

    Two Dollar Beach image
We spent time here snorkelling, swimming (although very shallow) and relaxing on the lovely grass area. We spotted a large bright blue starfish and heaps of tropical fish. The bar served nice cold beer and supplied fales for us to relax in. There were deck chairs available which we walked into the sea and had a beer there! Wifi was available - just ask at the bar for the code. The toilets sparkled like they were brand new and displayed all types of shells and decorations that you felt you were in someones home. Don't forget your reef shoes for swimming here - or anywhere in the South Pacific for that matter - some of the coral is really sharp! Not sure if they do food. There is a small cost of $2 USD to enter this paradise but it's well worth it - we left here and went to Tisa's - just 300m back up the road but returned as this is so much nicer! To get there, we took a taxi for $10 USD as there were four of us - but you can catch the local bus for $1 or $2 USD (depending on how the driver feels) . The tourist buses are much more expensive at $5. The buses were regular too. See more..

  14. 4.0 National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa (3 reviews)
    - Easy hike to a beautiful beach
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa image
The National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa (formerly known as Fagatele Bay National Marine Sanctuary), is the largest and most remote of all the national marine sanctuaries. The waters of the sanctuary support some of the greatest diversity of marine life in the national marine sanctuary system, including a wide variety of coral and other invertebrates, fishes, turtles, marine mammals and marine plants. The sanctuary also protects extensive coral reefs, deep water reefs, hydrothermal vent communities, rare marine archaeological resources and encompasses important fishing grounds. Visitors to the sanctuary and locals alike can enjoy recreational activities such as diving, snorkeling, boating, and fishing in sanctuary waters. In 2012, NOAA expanded the sanctuary beyond the original 0.25 Square miles of coral reefs within Fagatele Bay, and now the six areas making up the sanctuary cover over 13,500 square miles of nearshore coral reef and offshore open ocean waters. These additional areas include Fagalua/Fogama'a Bay (the next bay east of Fagatele) on Tutuila Island, as well as areas at Aunu'u, Ta'u and Swains islands, and a marine protected area at Rose Atoll (which is known as Muliava by the Manu'a residents) including the nearby Vailulu'u Seamount. Fagatele Bay Trail image
Below is a map from the park service which unfortunately is posted only at the destination! Also the map is printed with such poor resolution the text is almost unreadable. That said, it is worth a trip. The end of the short 7 minute hike leads to a small secluded beach with shallow coral and fish. Then if you swim further out toward where the waves break you will see a deep drop in the ocean where you will see much more fish and turtles. Note: you will be paying a $5 fee per person at the gate from the folks who own the land. Donʻt get indignant about it because itʻs a state park, etc. You are on their property, on their homeland in POLYNESIA. Chill and pay the $5. They are not rolling in riches so every little bit helps these families. See more..

Not our favorite hike in American Samoa - lots of garbage. Some views. Didn't take long from Laundry Mat to cannon and back. We passed the laundry mat the first time - I think the better hint to finding it is park across the street from the sanitary plant (stinky) in the public street parking adjacent to the ocean. Within the first ten minutes you can see two WWII era 6-inch guns positioned atop the ridge overlooking the Harbor. I would definitely saw that these are worth taking a look at. Make sure to bring bug spray and a rain jacket if you are going to do the whole thing - I got caught in a huge thunderstorm about halfway through! See more..

Walked by this beach everyday on way to wonderful DDW cafe. Was heavily used by locals on the weekends but quiet during the week, not much other than a beach and ocean with fales for shade. Just an average small beach along the harbor. See more..

We arrived in American Samoa on a cruise ship on a Saturday, only to discover that the Park office in Pago Pago is not open on weekends (fortunately I wasn't looking for a Parks Passport stamp!). We hired a driver to take us up and over the mountain into the Park, allowing us to view the Park scenery and our claim to being there. She gave us an excellent drive and narration up a very narrow and windy, though well-paved road, down to the town on the far side of the ridge line (actually outside the Park) to the coast & beach. Fabulous views all the way! It took about 2 hours out and back. See more..
