   It took me about half an hour to walk to the mosque from the town centre. I noticed that the modern looking tram network can take you there too if you don’t fancy the walk. It’s one of the most beautiful mosques I have seen anywhere in Africa. The grounds are lovely too and so quiet and peaceful (and litter free).    Situated in the town centre, this building is very easy to get to. Despite being surrounded by an incredibly busy number of streets, it seems very peaceful and quiet once inside. Beautiful tilling and paintings on every wall. Although the place is very charming, I couldn’t help thinking it’s a pity someone can’t make a large financial investment to get the place fully renovated. See more..

   This site is just over 30 minutes away from Constantine by car. I paid a taxi driver to take me and hang around to take me back to Constantine. Public transport probably isn’t an option. The surrounding scenery is quite beautiful, at least it was on the sunny day in April when I visited. The ruins cover quite a large area, but there were only about twenty other people there when I visited so it was very quiet and peaceful. I enjoyed waking around the hilly grounds taking in the ruins. I guess some people would feel the need for a guide or a guide book but I was content to just absorb the views. It’s probably staying the obvious but I advise sensible footwear as the terrain is quite rocky/hilly. See more..

   Constantine, a city straddling a deep and narrow river canyon, is a city of bridges. My favourite is Slimane Mellah footbridge. On one end freely accessible, on the other connected to an elevator - or ascenseur, as they call it in French - it's one thing in Constantine that shouldn't be skipped. If you are not prone to vertigo, cross it and around the mispoint of the bridge span you'll be treated to spectacular views of the city and canyon in three directions. See more..
