Many nice terraces

Copenhagen's Nyhaven, or "New Harbor," is actually steeped in a long heritage. Colorful buildings line the canal and hint at a history of small-vessel traffic. Like many ports, this strip has a salty history, rich with sailors, drinking and literary exploits. Danish author Hans Christian Andersen made his home in Nyhavn as well. It's cleaned up now and is a lovely place for a stroll.

    Beautiful Must-See Street
We walked from our Marriott Hotel about 30 minutes or so to Nyhavn, a beautiful and colorful canal street with scores of restaurants and shops. A fantastic photo op. We would recommend going at a time when you can see it in the late afternoon sun, and experience it when it lights up after dark. Be careful as many of the restaurants are very touristy, but it is splendid for a drink or late afternoon espresso or snack.

    Worth a Look
If you are in Copenhagen you should see this historic district. The history goes back to housing and "activities" for sailors. Hans Christian Anderson wrote many of his stories while living there . Unit #18 for most of his work and #20 where he lived out the rest of his life. Even in September as a "shoulder season" this place can get crowded as it is a tourist destination. There are many restaurants there. Some are trying just to get tourists with some "deals" and some that are very nice dining experiences. Dining next to the canal and people watching is quite an experience. I recommend Restaurant Nyhavn #41 for mussels and frits. Very good wines and beers too. Top it off with an ice cream just up the street at the corner.
