long live the Vikings, Iron and Stone Age people, etc!
The gently rolling hills around Lejre provide a very good backdrop for meeting Vikings, Stone Agers and others from the past. We've lived in the area since the 1980s and used to visit when our kids were young and there were just a few cottages and the occasional summer show at the Forsøgscentret. But Sagnlandet has modernised and now offers something for everybody. Our 4.5 year old grandson was keen to see the dead horse hanging at the sacrificial bog and to grind corn with stones and bake cookies on an open fire. We didn't have time to take dug out canoes on the lake, but we did find the swings next to the old farmhouses and we also checked out the archeological workshop with metal detectors and skeletons. We enjoyed strolling around the hills too and had some interesting chats with the young people who help visitors to understand the sites. Highly recommended!

    Good
This is very big and good outdoor-museum. I liked the Stone-age and the Iron-age villages. Was a bit disappointed of the viking village. The long house was very huge, but sterile. Also I expected more actors since it was weekend. But all in all it's a very nice museum, especially for the kids. Make sure to bring some sausages and stuff as you can get your own fireplace and make a bbq...
