East and West Treasures

It was grand browsing amongst the extensive works from East and West. Particularly interesting were the sizable exhibitions from the Islamic world, covering many countries of origins. Manuscripts with writings and illuminations are plentiful. Moving to European art we enjoyed an engaging selection from Denmark’s Golden Age plus works from other major origins.

    Must visit museum
Very nice museum with an excellent selection of Islamic art. You can easily spend hours there appreciating the items on display and walking around 'getting lost' in the maze the museum is. The modern European/Danish exhibition is interesting too but nowhere near what is on display on floors 3 and 4. The museum is free which is a huge plus. One negative point is that all smaller signs with explanation on the items being displayed are in Danish only.

    BRILLIANT - AND FREE ADMISSION!
Wow! You start up at the top amidst the darkened, protective rooms that house the Islamic and Eastern collections and work your way down to what was the house of the lawyer, David, whose collection this was - furniture, 18th and 19th century Danish art etc. The whole experience is mind-blowing. So elegantly done. The modern interventions (lighting, furniture for the public etc) only serve to complement the artefacts.
