The place is great at night.
Stayed at the Hump, a foreigner friendly hostels just above the square. Daytime, the place is so so , feels poor. Even fake. But nighttime, once the lightnings are on, looks fabulous I recommend sitting on the Hump terrace and enjoying the historical site

Beware of Construction
It was cool to look at because we stayed near it and walked by everyday. The construction and road barriers made it tricky to get to as we had to walk around quite a few things to get to it. Worth checking out if in the area.

dmark of ming
Not a must-see attractions, just a landmark of Kunming city, the joys are the night markets around it. During the night, many stands with commodities and handicrafts are there. It is also a square for many locals morning exercise, if you get up early aand get there round 7 o'clock, you can see the olds are doing exercise.
