Unbelievable, never seen anything like it !

First time I see this in China. A completely Chinese version of a Catholic church. A must see in Dali !

    Worth a visit
An old church with an interesting design. Beautiful architecture. Worth spending some time to admire. Not able to take photos inside the church.

Worth a visit, even if you are not Catholic
We attended Sunday Mass here, and the church was packed! We even saw nuns! After Mass, we went to the priest and tried to engage him in conversation, but his English was very limited. The Mass was of course in Chinese, so we did not understand a word, nor did we understand a word of the sermon. But, except for that, it was just like attending Mass at our Parish Church in the suburbs of Melbourne. The sequence of activities was exactly like that of Mass in any other Catholic church, and people stood/sat/knelt at exactly the same times during the Mass. One slightly disconcerting thing for us, there was a film crew from state television, with boom mikes, and massive cameras inside the church. For some reason, the camera was often pointed at me and I got a bit scared. I asked the priest about this after Mass, he reassured me that there was no problem, the film crew was making a documentary on freedom of religion in China, and that they would have been very happy to see an obvious foreigner at Mass, it proves their point that China has religious freedom! Even if you are not Catholic, it is a place worth visiting, the building is interesting. Try and go on a Sunday, the church is bound to be open. Sunday Mass is at 9.30am. There are plenty of signs pointing to the church on both Fuxing Lu and on Renmin Lu, you can easily find it.
