X'Canche Cenote, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

Nice gem, stay alert!

The cenote is nice, however we have sour feelings… When we turned on the road toward the cenote and Ek-Balam, a group of people stopped us. They forced us to register, we had to pay 700 pesos/each just for the cenote and zip line. We had to pay 100 pesos for the parking. We had our suspicions but obeyed. A huge surprise came by, the cenote cost 130 pesos/person. The zip line was 100 peso/ ride. We went to the reception, we had a huge luck, we got our refund. So, I advise you not get fooled! ;)

Great way to cool off after visiting Ek Balam
We decided to go for a dip in the cenote after walking around ek balam. It’s 2km from the entrance to the ruins. You can rent bicycles or take a taxi but we walked and it was super easy and quick. Tickets were 170 pesos per person. It was absolutely beautiful. The cenote had amazing trees with big roots hanging down, a great wood walkway that goes all around and a rope swing. They do not require you to wear a life jacket but they do offer them free of charge for those who want one. Like other cenotes, you are required to shower if you want to swim in order to help protect the ecosystem. There is a restaurant on site but we didn’t eat there. There were also a few vendors selling drinks and fresh coconuts along the walk to and from. Definitely recommend!
