Tourist trap but still somehow fun!
"Fifth Avenue" in Playa is loud, full of business owners hawking their wares, restaurants blasting music and cheesy souvenir shops. But its fun! Watch the "characters" roaming around-they'll hook you into taking a selfie then demand $20 USD. But there are some quality restaurants with outstanding service and other businesses worth checking out. A must stop if you are in Playa.

Avenue 5 isn't nearly as hassle-y as it sounds
Avenue 5 is not NEARLY as scary as other reviews have made it out to be. It's not a patch on the medinas in Tunisia, for example It's a pleasant wander, and we never encountered any unwanted interactions which couldn't be dismissed with a simple 'non gracias'. It IS worth taking a sweatband/ large bracelet/ watch which you can use to cover the all inclusive bracelet your hotel provides. Some people WILL try and work out which hotel you're from and then launch into a spiel about them being a waiter from your hotel, and this is their sister's shop etc etc etc. And it's nice to cut that nonsense out from the start. It's expensive, and prices are unpredictable so it's worth bartering. You can safely get half off their original price, in most cases.
