Spanish fort but Maya museum
I was expecting a museum about the Spanish fort but it is actually a regional Maya museum. A pleasant surprise. There are about six rooms with different themes. Informational placards are bilingual.

Excellent museum within an old fort with Spanish and English explanations
The exhibition is fantastic, a total of about 10 - 14 rooms, covering different aspects of Mayan culture and history. The artifacts are fascinating on their own, but good presentation and explanation makes it even more interesting. The objects are related to Maya burial rituals and practices, connection to the nature via hand made objects, Mayan system of counting and recording events. The museum is housed within an old fort guarding the city. We walked on the walls, the view is beautiful. Total time for a visit - 60 to 90 minutes. Definitely worth a visit.

The jade mask should be a wonder of the world.
The jade mask should be a wonder of the world, equivalent to the mask at Sutton hoo, or Tutankhamen. Speaks of such love for the deceased. Probably a youth.
