When we arrived the water was dark and ugly we where very sad about it and said ... we drive 3 hours for this!!!! Then we asked and we where told that because of hurricane Isaias it left it dark muddy and you need to take a boat to see it clear and blue, we payed 57 dollars for 4 of us our driver was super nice and drove us a little further in a will leave in photos also taco loco was a great restaurant to eat it’s on the main highway going back to playa Del Carmen.. I hope this helps we went to this amazing paradise on Tuesday sept 15 2020

    The area is amazing
Four of us drove to Bacalar to see the lake. We arrived on the Thursday and had a private boat tour scheduled for Friday afternoon - so we could catch the sunset on the lake. Unfortunately, the day was heavily overcast with only occasional breaks in the cloud cover. Even so, the lake was amazing. Our tour guides took us to all the tourist spots, passed on information regarding the different cenotes and why there are the different colors. We toured to the rapids and over to the pirate passage. We even had the time to head up the lake, to the newly developing areas and see a whole diferent section than what is in the normal tour. The colors were really cool and the time on the lake was well worth the drive to get there. Unfortunately, there is not much else to do. This was fine with us as it was just a few days but, staying for longer, you would need to be prepared for lots of time to just relax, enjoy a book or, stroll through the small town and eat. There were many places to get most any kind of food you were interested in. Each meal became an adventure, trying new places and most (not all) were very good. I highly recommend this as a place to go for a few days. A few hours, in a rushed tour, is no way to really enjoy the lake and area.
