Gorgeous building but very long tour
Stunning building, with gorgeous stained glass windows . Although the free tour is a really good idea run by very enthusiatic volunteers, we found it a little too long and had to break away from the group after an hour (we noticed that another couple did the same).. we went to do the Tower Challenge which was really fun and when we came back our group was still going! The history of the Minster is very interesting and I enjoyed the interactive Undercroft Museum however would recommend having shorter tours maybe. (I appreciate that some people love the detail that the guide gives however just something to be aware of!)

    Fantastic!!
Even after visiting dozens of cathedrals throughout Europe, the Minster is quite a special place. There is an admission fee but then tours inside are free (do pre-register because they book up). From the stained glass, to the organ, to the catacombs it's all very interesting and worth the visit. It's located adjacent to the Shambles so it's easy to take a break for coffee or lunch then go back to continue with another tour. The tour guides are extremely knowledgeable and interesting. This is a must see stop if you're in York.
