A somewhat unique tour of the sites, sounds and smells of historic York
I decided to chance JORVIK on a whim one afternoon on my stay in York and was pleased I did! I had clearly picked a quiet time, which afforded me to take my time. One I had purchased my ticket (validated for a year at no extra cost) I made my way down the stairs (lift/elevator option available) to the glass floor area, I was greeted and offered advice and then I went about my way! Without saying too much I was surprised to find a ride awaiting, where I enjoyed a guided audio tour alone though historic York as it would have been Once done I got to take in the back end of the exhibition, where I heard music being played by a Viking (live) and took in all the finding around me. Those with young or phobias may wish to know that there are real skeletons on display (which is very interesting and ties in well with what you've just seen on the ride - don't be alarmed, it's not scary) All in all I was likely only there for around 45-60 mins and enjoyed it. I'd recommend it for the price if you're a fan of history and have a spare hour or so

    Worth a visit.
We visited late afternoon, ticket purchased in advance. However the girl controlling the queue favoured those who were purchasing tickets at the door. The queue for those with tickets was three times the length. A colleague advised her to focus on the advance ticket queue. Inside we got a brief history regarding the glass floor, this was interesting; staff were available to answer any questions. Photos and artefacts on display telling the story of the dig. The ride was the best part, seeing life in a Viking village, the smells I had read about on the website were only obvious in certain parts of the ride. The narrator describes what you are seeing as you go round. I wanted the ride to be longer. On disembarking from the ride you visit a room displaying artifacts which were of interest. We had completed the whole experience in 40 minutes.
