Fresh air, scenic views, don't miss this!
Arrived at the park entrance after about an hours drive outside of Urumqi. There, you must park your car and take the park's buses, which may stop at a few scenic points where you can hop on/ hop off. One of the stops, the Kazakh Folk Village, is kind of a tourist trap, offering pricey meals to your party in a traditional Kazakh yurt. Otherwise, simply enjoy the views of the trees, mountains and streams from the bus as you drive on winding roads up the mountain. The Heavenly Lake (Tianchi) itself is absolutely stunning with nice mountainous views. You have the option to buy a ~20 minute boat/ferry ride, or to simply walk around the lake on the well constructed wooden/ stone pathway. Remember to bring a light jacket as it can get chilly (even in the summertime).

The Celestial Mountains of Central Asia
A 2,500 kilometre in length and up to 500 kilometres in width, stretch of mountains which in places forms the border between China and Kyrgyzstan, On our trip we had a meal with local nomadic people, inside their tent.

Winter trip to Heavenly Lake
Very cold, maybe 20C below at lake, but helped to keep away the crowds. We were on the first bus of two for the day. Maybe a total of 80 people for the day. Beautiful evergreen trees covered in snow. Lake was frozen and covered in snow. Quite and peaceful.
