A must-see in Turpan

Flaming Mountain is famous because of a well-known Chinese story book. It is worth seeing as it is quite unusual. All barren and brownish red. One has to go on a sunny day to see the glory of the all-red mountain. Slanting sunlight late in the day is better but it is hard to catch on a group tour. I took a walk from the entrance area all the way to the foot of the mountain; it takes about 20-25 minutes. It was quite hot on the day but tolerable. Fortunately there was a waiting donkey-cart to take me back to the entrance, at RMB50.

These mountains are flaming only at noon and if there are no clouds
These mountains are flaming only at noon and if there are no clouds , but at noon they could be very hot . The landscape is rather attractive , even if there are a lot of red cliffs much better than this . The worst thing is that you must pay to enter in this park .

    A bit overrated
There’s not a lot to see here compared to other sites in Turpan - the entire site has become extremely commercialized and you can take photos of the mountains, ride camels, fly in a helicopter (not sure if the pilots are licensed), or rent dirt bikes etc to drive around the mountains. If you’re interested in the legend of the monkey king, maybe you’ll feel more strongly about this place than we did. If we hadn’t rented the dirt bikes, we could’ve left the Flaming Mountains in 30 minutes. However, the scene during the drive to the mountains and surrounding areas (ie Bezeklik caves) is breathtaking. Overall, if you’re in Turpan, this is a must see, but you won’t need much time nor will you find It spectacular.
