Bayanbulak Grassland
My review is actually on Bayanbulak Grassland. We had travelled from Turpan by bus as the train schedule was all in the afternoon which is not convenient. Took about 4 1/2 hours to reached Korla (Kuerle). Upon reaching Korla train station in the late afternoon, we found there was no direct bus to Bayanbulak. It was off season. However there was a bus to Hejing leaving immediately which we took. Spent the night at Hejing and next morning took the first bus to Bayanbulak 4 1/2 hrs trip passing thru beautiful mountainous scenery with snowcapped mountain and beautiful grasslands. The entrance to Bayanbulak Grassland is about one km from village. No buses going there and so we walk there. There is now an entrance fee which will include the bus ride to four scenic spots. The first attraction is the infamous Swan Lake. Not much swans around as it was autumn. Actually the best time to visit Swan Lake is between May to August. During this time, the lake will be full with migratory swans. We hop on the bus to the next attraction which is a walk around the grassland and horse ride. We didn't stop by. Hop on the bus again to the next attraction which is a Tibetan temple. There are a few lamas there and appear to be a practicing temple. The last attraction is the meandering river. To reach the top of the hill for a good view, you can opt for a buggy ride for a fee or a 20mins walk. Along the way, the view is spectacular with the snowcapped Tianshan mountain at the back and views of the beautiful grassland and meandering river thru the grassland. You can see a few horses, yaks and sheep. A few Mongolian yuk probably used by the herdsmen. Overall this is a memorial visit.
