Wolf River Trips and Campground, Wisconsin, United States

Fun Camping

Been coming back for 3 years! let's get it straight from the get go this is a river tubing destination + campground. As such it naturally attracts young college age folk who are having a good time floating and drinking along with people of all ages. Is this for family's with small children? probably not. Teens will love it and we enjoy watching everyone have fun. There is an area up the hill away from the noise which has seasonal sites at a great price which is MUCH quieter. There is a restaurant / bar and the food is reasonable in price. Property is well maintained clean and should you have any problems we have found the staff friendly and quick to respond.

Great for a lazy day, but check water level before committing!
My parents and I went back to WRT after more than a decade. When my siblings were smaller we'd take canoe trips down the Wolf River on our own, and tubed through WRT. It has grown significantly and we were quite amazed. There is a bar on site, which we were too tired to visit afterward. The trip seemed kind of pricey at $10 each but we were able to take two tubing trips last Tuesday so it was worth the money as it took the entire afternoon. You get a big tube with a cup holder and straps that hold a mandatory life jacket (and an extra strap to clip to other tubes of those in your party if you wish). Riders get a bus trip to the drop sites; there is usually a longer trip and a shorter trip but when we went the water level was really low and only the short trip was offered. When on the bus please note that the tubes are stacked to the ceiling in the middle and riders are on benches on the sides of bus. This is not ideal if you are claustrophobic and I heard some people complain; luckily they were able to move closer to the door and away from the tubes. If you're claustrophobic I recommend sitting towards the front right away; hopefully the driver will understand. Also, they go through all coolers so expect to wait in line for a few minutes. I usually get carsick but the trip is short enough where I was fine. The staff seemed rather short and robotic. Our first trip had a nicer woman driving and the second trip had a grumpier guy driving--but the rides were so short their attitudes didn't really matter. The river was very low though and I would have preferred to go back and try another day but since we hadn't checked before leaving we felt committed to the trip. Bring shoes to wear! I strapped my Tevas to the tube while in the river but you’ll want shoes when you enter and leave because it’s so rocky. Our butts hit many rocks and we were stuck many times. But we mostly just laughed about the situation as it was quite ridiculous to see so many people strapped to each other and collectively stuck. When I went about ten years ago my mom and I took the longer trip when the river was low but the experience was such a pain we got off at the halfway mark and walked back. Maybe that is why they only offer the short trips when the river is low now! It's great to be outside and people were cleaning the river on the day we went. But I recommend checking the water level before heading out. The trip can be outstandingly calming or very bumpy depending.

    4 for 21+, 1 for families
This tubing trip (a Saturday afternoon in July) is well organized and the river is scenic, though red-brown in color but clear to the bottom. There were places to stop in deeper water to dunk yourself or just continue to float. However, IT IS BEST for the 20-something crowd. If you are there with younger kids, (ours were 14-16) they will see lots of drunk people and PDA. It became a moment to have a talk about drinking to excess in public without sounding preachy, so that was nice. Our previous 21-year-old selves would have had a great time. However, now being the parents of young teenagers, it was uncomfortable and we won't do it again.
