The observation deck, open in the summer, offers views of the city and surrounding lakes. Capitol Square plays host to state events throughout the year including Farmers Markets and Folk Festivals.

this place is absolutly gorgeous!
the inside of the building has beautiful architecture, and is very spacious and filled with things to explore. there is also a balcony on the top floor that gives you a stunning view of the madison isthmus and the entire city. I highly recommend going here if you are fond of

A Wisconsin Welcome!
We started by being totally surprised that we were welcomed in without the typical bag search, waiting in line etc. Everyone working here made us feel so welcome. We did the self-guided tour since there were many school groups there and we would have to wait quite awhile to get a tour guide. But still, any questions we had were answered by staff. Don't forget to climb the stairs to the observation deck. The view is incredible from the deck. The rotunda is magnificent.
