    Beautiful and disappointing ?
I agree with other reviews that this place is beautiful, but frustrating as hardly anything is open. Even the grocery store was closed early on weekdays and all day Thursdays. Seriouslt .. I understand these island shenanigans are seasonal , but it was just really challenging to even get basic needs met here. We were stayed from a Wednesday to a Friday.. maybe our mistake was coming during the week? Only one restaurant open for food and the other store we went in for coffee had weird hostile vibes from the owner. And don’t be fooled by most of the restaurants’ websites. Call their phone numbers (or worse, make your way all the way there) and the hours of operation are completely different and more limited. We actually had to take the ferry back to Bayfield on the second day of our trip because we had nothing to eat except chips from the drive! You wouldn’t believe how fast I scarfed down lunch that day. The state park is BEAUTIFUL especially with these fall colors but I wish we would’ve stayed in Bayfield and only come to this island for a day. But then again the cost of the ferry (and I highly recommend bringing your car to the island) is a bit high for just a day trip. I don’t know, Madeline....

    Not Much to See
We took our vehicle over on the ferry so we could see all of Madeline Island. The ferry was a unique experience, though pricey at $64 for two of us with our car. We were somewhat disappointed as there wasn’t a whole lot to see over there. The state park was beautiful with an awesome beach, but that was about all that impressed us. The shoreline is hidden from the roads around most of the island, as you drive mostly through woods. There were very few stores to browse near the ferry landing. We saw several people on mopeds that had been rented, but that didn’t look too impressive either. We can find equally beautiful beaches elsewhere without paying the price of the ferry. We can say we’ve been there!
