Review of Saba Dutch Museum

While touring Saba this was a wonderful place to stop. Upon entering you are greeted by Rene who inherited the elaborate collection from his Dutch family. It consists of furniture, art, religious relics, and more. This relatively small collection is brought to life by his extensive knowledge and personal connection with each display. The beautiful Dutch Tiles in the collection date back to the 1600s. Over all this museum was definitely worthwhile and thank you Rene for the tour!

    Enjoyed a Tour
I really enjoyed my little tour here and then sitting outside in the hammocks with the rabbits was very nice.

    17th century European artifacts
This museum, which is essentially a family collection of the proprietor, dates back to the mid-17th century(and earlier for some pieces). And while this is not a Saban museum, per se (as the name is “Dutch Museum”), the period from which some of these artifacts originate is contemporary with the Dutch West India Company’s establishment of trading sites in the West Indies (to include Saba) - that connection directly ties into Saba’s early history. I recommend taking the time to speak with Rene, the proprietor, as his familiarity and knowledge about the pieces are comprehensive and impressive.
