Canoe Outpost - Little Manatee River, Florida, United States

4.5 (91 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Wimauma Boat Tours

Canoeing on Little Manatee river.

Two couples canoeing great time. We saw many birds, lots of large turtles, small alligator and dolphins. Water was a little low first part of trip and we tipped over once but was very hot so cooled off. Scenery fantastic. You can stop at the State park, washrooms and a beautiful screened in picnic area. And it's all down stream. River widens second part easier navigation. We all had a great time. At end they pick you up and take you back to you cars. Staff was great friendly. You can also kayak as well as canoe.

    Very Nice!
Spent the 3 days with my 2 teenage grandsons in a very nice, clean and completely furnished cabin on stilts with a lovely front porch and 2 rockers for enjoying the birds and view. Kayak trip was awesome after the detailed instructions of the river by friendly staff. I would recommend for sure!

    Great trip but be prepared
We were the first kayak out at 9:00 AM. Very helpful employees launched our rented tandem kayak for us, which was great since we are seniors. They showed us a notebook full of pictures of what landmarks we would see on Trip 1, which is 6 miles and estimated to take 2.5 hours. They warned us the water was very low and we would have to get out and push the kayak over low spots. The first half of the trip was mostly shady and beautiful. The sun was on our backs. We saw a hawk perched very near the water, alligators, lots of turtles and a blue heron. We got stuck on sandbars and a log, but managed to paddle our way out. There are restrooms and picnic tables at the Little Manatee River State Park about 1.5 hours into Trip 1. After that stop, the river widens and deepens and we never hit bottom again, but we were in full sun. The signs for the haul out spot are good except for the one that says "go 50 yards, then turn left". It was actually 50 feet. No big deal. The haul out area has picnic tables and trash bins. What I wish we had known before leaving home: PICK UPS ARE ONLY AT 1, 2,3,4 and 5 PM. If you start at 9 AM, you won't get back to your car until after 1 PM. Take lots of water, lunch and extra sun block.
