A gem of a Museum

Beautiful museum. We got a tour by a very knowledgeable and delightful women who was one of the founder of the museum. She wore her traditional Guatemalan clothing. This little museum is a gem. She knew so much about textile and traditions and the history of the different Mayan ethnic groups . It was just beautiful. I wish the museum had more funding. If the museum appears closed, just wait a few minutes. It is open and well worth the few minutes of stand by before she opens the door because she might be giving the tour.

Excellent museum and learned a lot
I love Mayan textiles. The Director gave us a tour, which made the visit. Not sure if a tour is required or what happens if you get there and she's in the middle of another tour, but we lucked out on timing of arrival...maybe call first. It is in Spanish, and I'm not sure if English tours are given. Even so, she explained the history, meaning, and culture of the textiles from various regions of the country and various towns. I really treasure this info about the textiles and even bought their book at the end so I can learn more myself. It's not centrally located (about a mile out of the center), but it is near a mall and grocery store so you can get some errands done afterward.

    very interesting. traditional clothing.
A vast diversity of regional clothing, a sampling of pottery and tools. My guide was quite knowledgeable and spoke wonderful English, so I could really enjoy all of the information. The clothing and fabrics are beautiful. I am not sure about the 50Q price. seemed a bit high, and I did not get either a ticket or a receipt (which made me wonder, since I was told the museum was free but a donation was suggested). Photos are not allowed. The train museum around the corner is interesting as well.
