The Cango Caves, Western Cape, South Africa
4.5 (4.242 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #3 in Oudtshoorn Caverns & Caves
We were fascinated by Oudtshoorn’s Cango Caves
Though damaged through shortsighted tourism schemes in the 1960s, these caves are still worth a visit for their eerie dark tunnels and stunning limestone formations.

Awe-inspiring adventure...
What an AMAZING experience!! My husband & I didn't plan this, but in the spur of the moment, we decided to visit. We were welcomed by friendly staff. One thing to note is that the "system" was down so they couldn't accept card payments. Luckily there's an ATM on the 3rd level, so we could get cash. Our guide, Lee-Ann, was very friendly, funny, energetic & informative. She made the tour even better than it would have been! We did the adventure tour & would highly recommend it to anyone who is able to do it. You do not have to be super-fit or strong at all. You just have to be able to go up & down quite a few stairs, walk in a bent position at times, do a little crawling & have a bit of strength to push yourself up "the chimney". It's pretty humid inside & you'll definitely break a sweat, but it is absolutely worth it!

Cave Tour & Museum
We didn't understand why reservations were necessary until we arrived here and saw just how many people visit these caves. The caves are stunning and after the tour they also have a museum covering the history and science of the caves. Expect this to take an additional 60-90 minutes if you like to read into things at museums.
