Beautiful and safe area for families
Knysna Lagoon and Leisure Island: This is a beautiful area to simply visit or enjoy a stay. What to do: The two areas that are must-see are the beaches off Coney Glen (by The Heads) and Leisure Island’s Bollard Bay beach. The waters here are clean, despite recent issues with load-shedding, and are replenished by the tidal flow. Low tide is a super time to explore the shallows and enjoy the warm water! What not to do: Leisure Island seemingly has a good number of accommodation options; advantageous are those with a beachfront vista of The Heads, southerly facing. We have personal recommendations for No 1 on Bollard, but please do not stay at ‘Beletage’ , Church Square…at least until it is renovated. My images speak for themselves and a separate review is posted on the property’s TA site.

    Swim Dory swim
If you want to explore open water swimming that is still a little protected just go out for a swim in the lagoon. Contact Knysna Yacht Club to get details of the swimming club. The tides and wind makes for interesting experiences every time you go. Water is shallow on the side so even if you are not used to open water swimming you will be able to stand up close to shore and save yourself.
