A real eye opener on discrimination

The apartheid nationalist government destroyed District Six in the 1960s. This memorial museum contains maps, photographs and other reminders of this old vibrant neighborhood. Site walks and tours in the Museum with ex-resident storytellers are also offered.

    Fascinating
One of the best parts of our tour of Cape Town, this down-to-earth museum tells the story of this unique community, erased now and scattered. An important part of the history of this city and this land. We have told all of our friends about this place. Lots of personal stories here and artifacts of a time past.

    Thought-provoking
Very interesting and thought-provoking museum. It tells the story of how people were removed from their homes and made to settle elsewhere under the apartheid rules. The stories are told by the residents of District Six and there are lots of photos and artefacts to give you an insight into how life was at the time. You can also book a tour by ex-residents. We didn’t do this but it was interesting to overhear some of the information they were giving their groups, so I would probably recommend doing that to anyone visiting in future.
