Jailhouse rocks

What a truly wonderful and well kept little museum. Well laid out and most informative with excellent examples of pioneer history as well as how Clanwilliam (or Augsburg) was built on the concept of a healthy tea. Very helpful assistants, great old photos, videos, jail cells - well worth the R30pp entry. Open weekdays.

Unattractive from the outside, fascinating from within
This was an old jail. The space has been fully utilised to tell the story of the building of the local dams, the making of Rooibos tea, life and times of the pioneers in previous centuries, old equipment and tools, dentists and doctors equipment, early mining and farming. The scenes are so life- like I jumped, thinking I had entered a room of real people. Well worth an hour or so of your time. It costs a massive R10 to get in. PS It is right opposite the tourist bureau manned by Esther, who is a mine of information

    Some well researched displays
We spent a good hr plus at the museum and were made to feel very welcome. There is a lot of work being done around several of the displays- found the Rooibos and Wuppertal displays of very good quality with well researched content. There is a stunning quilt depicting the history of the area .The museum clearly has some dedicated contributors to their displays. Well worth a look - a venue with excellent further development potential. The Truter family Rotorua New Zealand
