Wish we could stay a lifetime.
If you have the opportunity to stay at Boschendal, do. Our family fell in love with this place. We rented a 3bd orchard cottage for 3-nights. I wish we could have stayed for a week, or perhaps a lifetime. We're used to US prices, and a similar property in Napa would be, I expect, 5x or 10x the price. Even if the prices were the same, I'd much rather go back to Boschendal. The grounds and gardens were stunning. Our cottage was delightful. The breakfasts were a highlight of our stay. We enjoyed relaxing around our (indoor and outdoor) fireplaces during the day it rained and enjoyed the gardens, mountain biking and even a chilly swim on our day of sun. My only regret is that we didn't stay longer, and that Boschendal is so far away.

Beautiful Boschendal
We recently spent a magical few days staying in one of the self catering cottages on the farm. Perfectly situated with sweeping views over the valley and majestic mountains, it was a perfect escape from the chaos of city life. Leisurely breakfasts were enjoyed in the historic Werf restaurant overlooking the veggie garden which are used in the production of food in the restaurants. You can stock up on freshly prepared farm food, to use in your cottage, if you are not going out to eat in the many and varied restaurants in either the Franschhoek or nearby Stellenbosch towns. Whilst well known for their amazing wine, Boschendal produces and grows a range of fruit and Black Angus cattle. With so many activities to do on the farm if you are energetic enough, hiking, trail bikes, etc, you can also relax with a picnic basket or attend the Friday night market. Definitely will return!

Beautiful site, wonderful wine, superb picnic lunch. Just don't come on the tram.
We visited Boschendal using the wine tram. Unfortunately the tram takes it'd passengers to an outlying location (The Cellar door), away from the main building. I had booked a picnic lunch, which was at the main site. Whilst my husband really enjoyed his wine tasting at The Cellar Door (I don't drink), and we both thoroughly enjoyed our picnic lunch, our visit was severely marred by having to get from one site to the other, whilst wine tasting/eating lunch, all in the timeframe stipulated by the tram. It was all rushed and we didn't feel we got the whole Boschendal experience. I wish we had just visited Boschendal using taxi/uber/self drive. Maybe one day we can return and do it properly.
