Absolute must!!

the history of the DHR is fascinating. How the engineers built it, roughly 130 -140 years back is worth learning about and also experiencing it. Absolute must when one visits Darjeeling.

Rail Museum at Ghoom, Darjeeling district
The rail museum at Ghoom, Darjeeling district is situated on the upper floor of the station building and can be accessed by the overbridge. This is a small museum which presents the history of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It also attempts to make people aware of heritage conservation. The exhibits are a must-see for railway fans.

It's amazing to see such an old engine (1892) still runs. The ride is a return journey: Darjeeling-Ghum-Darjeeling, with 15 minutes stop at Batasia Loop and then 25 minutes at Ghum. The ticket cost includes visit to the museum at Ghum station. Choose trains with Vistadome coaches for better experience. The ride itself is through busy streets, constantly honking. So we decided to walk back to Darjeeling from Ghum.
