Sehome Hill Arboretum, Washington, United States

4.5 (55 reviews) Spent Ranking #21 in Bellingham Nature & Wildlife Areas

Marvelous, Marvelous

The Sehome Arboretum is just a wonderful place to hike, walk, run or explore. Many parts of it are off leash, so your dog can have a great time too. This is not a typical arboretum; it is a giant slice of native woods that has many trails and a few roads in it. It is a glorious place for a walk near the Western Wash University campus and there are many fun surprises to explore, from hidden paintings to moss designs and lovely murals. Go! This is a gem.

Nice hike close to the city
Trails are in very good shape, take you through the Washington university grounds, with great views. The trails extend higher in the hill but we only hiked to the reservoir.

A quite walk in the woods close to town
We hiked Oyster Dome two weeks ago. This is a gentle stroll by comparison. There are numerous short loops and trails so you can walk as little or as much as you like. There are some steep parts (From Jersey street the left trail is a hike up, the right trail with the wooden barrier is much more gentle) The observation tower is much ado about nothing since most of the view is blocked this time of year- maybe all year- I didn't pay attention to which trees where coniferous and which ones were deciduous). It would be a good workout to start at the 25th street parking lot off of Bill McDonald parkway and go to the top but nothing a 50 something overweight couple wouldn't enjoy. The sign at the upper parking lot has a good map that give you a sense of how the trails connect.
