Great place to walk the Beach and the trail

The trail above Richmond Beach is a winner, thousands of people walk the trail and enjoy the magnificent views and sunsets. The beach is a great place to walk the dog, look for treasures from the sea and enjoy the smell of salt water. Looking at the snow covered Olympic Mountains is always a treat.

Quiet Rocky Beach with lots of Whale Watching Potential
We need a beach break with the dog and my daughter found this as we were driving towards Seattle. It was a little out of the way but was a good stop. There were multiple levels of parking as we wound our way down from the road. The upper parking was closest to the children’s playground. The lower still had space and was “closest” to the beach. By close you still had to walk down a small incline (paved), cross a bridge over the train tracks before actually touch the beach. Added maybe 5 minutes or so depending on your pace. Bathrooms were available though I don’t recommend using them unless you want to hold your breath. A large sign introduced the reader to many of the whales, dolphins, seals, otters, etc that could be visible. The best time for whale watching was in the fall and winter ( we were too early). We walked a little ways up and down the beach but could not see anything except for boats in the distance. The rocks were a bit painful on the dog’s paws so he just jumped up onto a log and waited. Lots of driftwood were scattered all over the beach and the water was a bit too cold to think of going in. Waves were minimal but would have reconsidered if there was some sun. Some families and couples were about but it was quiet and we were able to just enjoy a little fresh ocean air. At least until a 50 car plus freight train came rumbling behind us.

    Nice Park
Richmond Beach Salt Water park is lovely semi-urban park offering great views of the Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains, short hikes, kite surfing, a playground, and ample beach front. Open dawn-to-dusk, the park is a fine place to have a picnic or to fly a kite, and a great spot to enjoy the local scenery.
