Ozette Lake, Washington, United States

4.5 (19 reviews) Spent Ranking #29 in Olympic National Park Bodies of Water

Beautiful lake and great hiking!

We just hiked about 3 miles here because we started late day and it was still really nice. You can swim at the "Devil's Punchbowl" if you like that crisp, cold water! The photo opportunities are great and it's a nice hike for all levels.

Beautiful, mostly boardwalk hike to the ocean
It's a long walk -- 3-miles, but it feels like more. But a lot of it is boardwalk, and it's through some beautiful forrest that will make you feel like there may be ewoks hiding in the trees. We took the Ozette trail on the last day of our amazing hike from Shi Shi Beach. It's got some muddy and somewhat strenuous spots near the ocean -- but I think it's easily passable even for kids or folks who don't hike much. It was a little rainy and kinda cool in late May, so consider a rain jacket. And bring plenty of water and snacks. And, of course, a camera. It's beautiful. I believe the only bathrooms are at the trailhead by the ranger station where you park your car.

    Lake Ozette loop trail
A easy 9.2 mile hike on beautiful maintained trails. Check tide tables to do loop hike with low tide. 3 mile to Cape Alava. Turn south and start walking the beach, saw eagles, deer, otters, at about mile 1 is the wedding rock petroglyphs, awesome to see. 2 miles more and you reach sandpoint, the return loop trail to Lake Ozette, first climb hill and take in the view. You can continue to wish creek, a wide expanse beach mostly isolated. Head back on the 3.1 mile return loop through woods and bogs, again mostly boardwalk, some parts in disrepair, keep an eye out for the broken boards. Our trip was sunny high of 66 light winds, low tide for wondering. Start to finish took 4:30, we packed lunch and water using day packs. Truly a family hike. Also have campsites along the beach if decide to stay overnight. An Oly. Nat. Park must.
