Beautiful place to see sunrise!

Stayed at the Inn at Mallard Cove about a mile away, and our host Don recommended we take in the sunrise at the beach here. It was fabulous! Changed in the blink of an eye. Lots of various birds. Enjoyed watching the kayakers and fisherman come and go. Truly a beautiful place to see and hang out as the sun comes up.

It's great that this area has been preserved!
Thankfully the Nisqually delta escaped catastrophic development and is now being restored to a more natural environment. One of my favorite places on earth to explore around the delta and the Nisqually river. On any given day you'll see eagles, otters, ducks, geese, salmon, and flocks of many varieties of birds. Spectacular views on a fine Northwest day, and even a great experience to explore during the rain. Always something new!

    Away from the madding crowd
The place is tricky to locate until you’ve visited a couple of times. The road leading to the waterfront is at the bottom of a steep hill with limited parking space. It is however a great place to launch your kayak and it does have a rather primitive boat launch. We had no problem putting our kayaks in the water. We spent the day exploring the shoreline paddling up into the freshwater stream that feeds into the sound. There is a noticeable current and tidal flow, but nothing that concerned us. The area is abundant with waterfowl and eagles are common. Since the area is a brackish delta, mud flats can extend during low tide making a shore break difficult. It’s a wonderful solitaire stretch of water to visit far from private beaches and homes that occupy most of the beaches in the general area.
