Just Awesome.

Anywhere I went I was NOT disappointed here. We stopped in Paradise but drove and hiked some of the smaller trails all around. I vastly underestimated the power and impact of standing at the base of Mt. Rainier and felt the pull to explore the heights as I stood there. Am too old to engage on the more advanced hike and as this was the first time visiting, was unprepared for my comfort with some of the lesser paths on the mountain itself although we did hike other easier areas. Narada Falls is a must, well worth the trek to observation area and be prepared to get soaked from this mists. I loved it!!!!. Mt. Rainier constantly teased us with possibly seeing the top. Clouds would thin and almost clear then suddenly thicken up. This is an Elder Mountain and as such has retained all the power and majesty throughout time.

Wow! That single word pretty much perfectly sums up everything.
We arrived at Mount Rainier National Park in the late morning. How something can be so majestic yet so threatening at the same time is pretty amazing. Words really cannot describe the true beauty of this National Park. This is absolutely a 'must see' if you are anywhere even remotely close to this area. Try to get there early as the traffic to gain entry is almost obscene.

    Spectacular Views!
We entered the park at the Niqually entrance. The only entrance open this winter. The drive at the entrance had no snow, but as you wind along the road the snow gets deeper and deeper. It was over 10 feet deep and getting more. There were waterfalls everywhere. Make sure to stop at the lookouts, they are worth the stop. The visitors center is ONLY open on the weekends! You can rent snow shoes at the Visitors center or the General store for about $25. There is some nice safe hiking near the visitor center and sledding. There is other hiking, but avalanches are a concern so you have to be prepared. I am a Naturalist at a park in Michigan and I let children feed the birds raw sunflower seeds or raw nuts. They must not have salt, oils added or be roasted. There were some people feeding the birds and they were eating out of their hands. Do not feed the mammals. It brings them close to the road and that is dangerous for them. Also there is a fine. We saw several red foxes. They were beautiful.
