Hikers Paradise
This is a great mountain to climb. Above Camp Muir you’re going to want a guide unless you’re a climbing expert. Even if you’re not going above Camp Muir you may want a guide if the weather isn’t favorable. On our hike down from Muir the trail was snow covered, there were tracks in all directions, and the fog limited visibility to about 50 feet. Very easy to get lost. There’s cell coverage at Paradise and then at the higher elevations so bring your phone as well to aid winter navigation. Rainier is a beautiful mountain.

Amazing view, a little challenging
A friend and I took this hike and really enjoyed it. The hike is about two miles each way with a decent elevation gain in the last quarter mile. The view from the top is incredible. On a clear day you are afforded a great view of Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens and Mount Hood. The trail is very well maintained and there is a very pretty lake about halfway up the trail. This is well worth the challenge.
