A healthy hike for a beautiful Washington beach
Meadowdale Beach Park, from each entrance (via 75th on the south or the main park entrance from 156th) is a view worth the hike. It is not accessible via a car, unless you have a permit. I would give it an excellent rating, only when they finally do something about making the beach part of the Park accessible to walkers without having to wade in the water underneath the tunnel. Some folks find other ways to get there without having to get their feet wet, but unless the country or city of Edmonds finishes creating a safe bridge access through the tunnel, you will have to take your shoes off or bring waders. Otherwise the park is great for people wanting to get a good hilly mile plus walk to the beach through a lovely wooded forest or from 75th, parking at Hanes Park, which also has a great view of the Puget Sound and mountains.

    A hidden gem
We spent most of the day resting in our hotel room after days of traveling, watching the start of college football season. We wanted to get outside for some fresh air and I found this place on the local map. We decided to go check it out and I'm so glad we did. The information I read said there was a one mile "walk" to get to the beach area. It was actually 1 1/4 miles to the beach. But, part of the walk is steep going down the hill and very steep coming back up. It was beautiful scenery though so we took our time and enjoyed it. When we got to the end of the trail, however, we found a closed sign. There is an active train track that runs along the beach. Two trains went by in the hour and a half that we were there. You access the beach by a tunnel that goes under the tracks. It had been raining a few days in Seattle and the tunnel was flooded which is why there was a closed sign. People either turned around and left or took off their shoes and waded to the other side. We chose the latter. The water was freezing cold but it was only ankle deep. It was actually kind of adventurous. The beach on the other side was so tranquil. We could see the Olympic Mtn range in the distance. One thing we saw some people do to get around the flooded tunnel was walk a distance away and cross the train track behind a fence to get across. We chose not to do this on the return because it is illegal. If you are a rule breaker though, you can avoid the cold water if the tunnel is flooded. One other note, parking is limited.
