Crossing the mighty Columbia
This bridge has been a part of my life since before I was born. My mother watched it being built; my father, brother, sisters, and I crossed it daily going to and from the mills. It provided a great place to drop gunny sacks full of cow manure onto ships traveling up the river. From our little town, it was never out of sight. The Longview Bridge, later renamed the Lewis and Clark Bridge, was completed in 1929. At one time it was the longest cantilevered through-span bridge in North America. The main span is 1200 feet long, and far enough above the surface of the Columbia to allow very large ships, such as USS Helena (CA-75) to pass underneath. This month I drove across and back, just for old times sake.

Bridge that crosses Columbia River between Oregon and Washington
Gorgeous views up and down the Columbia River as you cross between Washington and Oregon. On the Oregon side there are viewpoints to stop at to view the river and even Mt St Helens.

One Great Bridge
I live in Rainier, Oregon, but shop, work and go to church in Washington, and thus in 27 years I have made over 20,000 trips over the free Bridge. It goes up and up and up, 200 feet above the Columbia, and is well-maintained. Like any 2-lane bridge, it can back up (WAY up) if there's an accident; and the merging approaches are, well... exciting! But in all seasons I love our Bridge!
