Lake Sacajawea Park, Washington, United States

4.5 (174 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Longview Bodies of Water

Very nice!

What a lovely feature. This large park with a lake that sort-of wanders through town provides broad, grassy lawns, picnic areas, fishing spots, and lots of bird watching. A paved trail surrounds this large urban park that will appeal to walkers and joggers. Very old trees are a source of shade and delighted wonder. The surrounding neighborhood is interesting as well. A beautiful getaway in the heart of Longview.

    Centerpiece of the Town
Lake Sacajawea, a 1 1/2 mile long narrow urban lake, is truly the centerpiece, meeting place, and pride of Longview, WA. Residents are intent on keeping the lake and surrounding park grounds pristine as no permanent commercial businesses are allowed. There are walking, jogging, biking paths around the lake and several bridges make it possible to do loops of various distances, from 1/2 mile to over 3 miles. While using the paths to enjoy the Japanese garden, rhododendron garden, hundreds of varieties of trees, etc. you do not have to cross the streets at the bridges as the paths go under the bridges. Many of the trees are around 90 years old and are quite spectacular stately giants with name plaques. Another fun fixture is the "solar system". A marker labeled "the sun" is at one end. As you travel around the lake you come a marker for Mercury about 15 yards from the sun, then Venus and the other planets further along at the appropriately scaled distances until you reach Pluto nearly a mile and a half away! Thursday free concerts in the park during the summer, 4th of July week activities that culminate in a world class timber competition and a great fireworks display, and the changing season colors and migrating birds are just a few of the things to enjoy at this gem nestled among some of Longviews prettiest neighborhoods.

    Go see it
This is a very long, beautiful lake. You can park alone it in most places in the side of the road. The Japanese garden on the island is truly beautiful. The rhododendron garden was not in bloom but must be pretty when it is. A well done oasis in town.
