A Birding Haven
We recently have become interested in Birding and after calling around we were quite pleased to find that Camano Island's Iverson Spit was included in Audubon Washington's list of best places to bird watch in the Evergreen State.With Audubon and Camano Island trail maps in hand, we set out to see what we could find. Iverson Spit has over 330 acres and there is a varied nature trail system criss-crossing the island. We had hoped to see some of the 125 species recorded in this one habitat alone. We were not disappointed! Within easy walking distances we saw eagles, shorebirds, Chickadee(?s), so many Blue Heron, a few Hummingbirds, and Thrushes. Later that afternoon we saw a flock of hundreds of snow geese that winter on the Island and in the Skagit Valley. It was quite a sight to see blankets of white take to the sky. Camano Island is so beatiful and we hope to explore more of the trails this year. A few of the B&B's are offering birding specials this spring and that seems to be a great way to really enjoy the weekend. We plan to explore as much as we can!We have been told that The Friends of Camano Island Parks have maintained a great trail system and the Pilchuck Audubon Chapter offers guided trips throughout the year. We highly enjoyed our trip.

Spit
Long sandy beach,lots of walking trails and bird watching oppertunities. Logs for building forts. Great place fo the kids when the tide is low there is sand for miles
