Bigger Inside than Outside ! More than you think.
I have a friend who was a Vietnam era Huey pilot who wanted to come up here from CA to go to the air museums in September. We did. We went through Boeing (and it of course was fantastic), then the air museum in Mukilteo, (Old pilots just hanging out inside the hanger oozing with history and stories.) Then at last to the Heritage Flight Museum (closer to home because I live on Whidbey Is.) This was a friendly place, again the pilots of the different services ribbing each other. Then in the back of a hanger I found a folding airplane. An L-13 that I have a picture of my Dad climbing into a brand new to ferry it. They also had some Navy planes and I happened to have a 1941 crank bomb loader for 500lb bombs (don't you?) I returned a week later with an enlarged pic and donated it and my bomb loader which they truely appreciated. The man whose hand I put it into used one and loaded bombs. I got a nice letter of thanks. Enthused, I will be returning with a poster sized pic that has everyone's name on it (62 of them) from 3/13/1948 8th Rescue Unit, posed in front of their B-17 McChord AFB, Tacoma WA. So Heritage and I have adopted each other a little bit ! Of course I recommend them.

    History lives here
This is a fairly small flight museum but it's chock full of interesting stuff as well as a piece of history that I didn't even know existed. They have the Interstate Cadet trainer that pilot instructor Cornelia Fort that was flying near Honolulu on December 7, 1941. It was likely the first plane attacked by the Japanese attack. There's an entire display showcasing this amazing nugget of history. Other planes include a P51 Mustang that flies frequently and an A6 Skyraider that's a total tank - you look at it and wonder how it ever got off the ground. Lots of knowlegable an interesting staff and this museum was the highlight of our recent visit to the Bellingham / Burlington area. Highly recommended.
