Gonzaga University, Washington, United States

4.5 (166 reviews) Spent Ranking #7 in Spokane Educational sites

When Visiting Spokane, Gonzaga University is a Clean & Wonderful School to Walk Around & Enjoy the Views

Due to the basketball team being in the national spotlight for the last 20 years, Gonzaga has significantly grown over the years. Many local housing upgrades, new buildings including a new auditorium for music and live production events, and vast improvements to the grounds that connect down to the Spokane River. A great alternative place to watch the July 4th fireworks instead of trying to park downtown. One can stroll, bike, and ride the scooters when they are available.

Old and new campus on the river. Modern school with a classic Jesuit feel
Ok; I'm biased. My daughter just decided go to Gonzaga, in the year when they were #2 in basketball. But she didn't make that decision after the play offs, but after walking the campus and city a second time and staying overnight with students to absorb the vibe. Here you have a great mountain city (#2 in Washington and very Boise-like with perhaps a few more (interesting) warts and lots more recreational potential. Here you have the Spokane River and Falls and a fantastic little city to walk to and through. Here you have one of the great recreational trails in the country, lakeside beaches a short drive or a medium bike-ride away, Academic Gothic buildings and cathedral-like spaces, across a short bridge from the Washington State University medical and health campus. I guess that makes it old school academia meets Catholic University chic, meets Pacific Northwest mountain air, meets walkable cool city, with some SF-like homeless warts tossed in for spice. A great art museum, a deeply warm friendly atmosphere and excellence for excellence's sake with some Napoleon Dynamite houses still standing on campus completes this picture.
