Such a fun dose of art in an urban setting.

What a delightful surprise! Tucked in a neighborhood just off Main Street is a delightful art oasis. Loved it. Walked around it several times and saw new things each time. It was fun and happy! Good balance between sculptural displays and gardens. I forgot I was in a city for a moment and was transported to a whimsical and enchanting place. Definitely would revisit next time I come back to town.

    Roadside America
Is a classic Washington State old town, with quite a lot of historic architecture and decent restaurants. We didn’t have time for the museum but did have time for a good walk around Dick and Jane’s Spot, a private residence on 1st and Pearl St. It was well worth a stop. There is parking on one side and it’s right off the main drag into town. The decor is like a curiosity shop born from junkyard and thrift store parents. Grotesque figures made out of anything available share elbow room with yard art. The overall effect reminded us of the sort of creepy kitsch common in the mid to late 60’s and early 70’s, part goofy statues, part eerily malformed manikins. The real winner, though, is the house-sized reflector patterns which cover one entire elevation. Someone needs to come through here at night with their headlights on and post pictures. It’s like Native American decor made out of reclaimed trash. Well worth a stop if you’re in the area.

    Wonderfully eclectic folk art
This is a great place to enjoy the imagination of the owners who have built this marvel of folk art over many years. It's a must stop on a visit to Ellensburg. They even have a visitor registry in front. Be sure to walk all the way around the house and pause often to take in its hidden treasures.
