Cowlitz County Historical Museum, Washington, United States

Worth a stop!

There is a lot to this museum and it’s free! The gentleman who was there must have been very bored because I got a private tour of each of the displays with additional information not included on the displays. The Mount St. Helens car is in the front as well. Lots of eruption displays.

A fabulous insight into the history of the County of Cowlitz in Washington.
Whilst passing through the town of Kelso, (the seat of Cowlitz County), on my way up the I-5 to Seattle I decided to pay the History Museum a visit. there is no entrance fee to visit this museum but a small donation is welcome. On entering the museum you are greeted by a statue of the founder of Kelso, Peter W. Crawford whom I was surprised to learn was from Scotland, United Kingdom. Inside the museum there are interesting photographs and artefacts covering the development of the region including the native Indian community, the growth of the logging industry, the importance of the rivers and railroads and also a section on the regions law enforcement. I found all area's interesting and informative and the lady on the front desk (Lesley) was very helpful and provided me with additional information. The museum is not big my any means and can be covered in an hour or so, it also has a small gift / book store.

    Free Local History!
As a homeschooling family, we are always looking for ways to bring fun and fascination to our kids' education. This is a beautiful, if small, museum, great for a rainy day! Who can say, "No!" to free admission? Nice permanent displays, a variety of rotating displays, and a very nice gift shop!
