Chihuly Colorful Creations - A Bridge of Glass

Ok I'm a HUGE fan of Dale Chihuly's work! Even though it was a very cool and drizzly day, off we went from Seattle to Tacoma to visit A Bridge of Glass. Tacoma is Chihuly's home town, and a Bridge of Glass did not disappoint. It is his art installation across the pedestrian bridge that spans I-705, and connects the Thea Foss Waterway and the Museum of Glass. There are 3 different areas that make up A Bridge of Glass created by Chihuly to change our perception of the space and environment. These include 1) the Seaform Pavillion - a complete glass ceiling of his spectacular and colorful works of art, 2) the Crystal Towers (the center of the Bridge) that are huge and I can only image what they would look like on a sunny day, and 3) the Venetian Wall with a stunning amount individual pieces. Breathtaking works of art free for all to enjoy, and ends with a stunning view of the harbor. If you love stunningly beautiful works of art, don't miss this one.

Unique Presentation of Art and Free
Waze was not the best app to find the bridge because of literally used the middle of the freeway as the point where we arrived! After looping around we finally found parking on Dock Street right next to the Museum of Glass. Since we were here quite early there was lots of space and very cheap versus the lot parking under the museum. From the street it was around a 10 minute walk before we got to the bridge. Along the way you see the docks and the outdoor glass artwork before climbing up the stairs outside the museum. A wheelchair ramp was to the right when facing the museum. The Venetian wall of Chihuly glass works was very cool. So many different shapes and sizes all free to view up close. A bench ran the length of the wall on the opposite side but we did not sit down as it was occupied by a sleeping homeless person. There were two crystal towers of bluish glass that towered overhead. The ceiling above also contained more glassworks stacked closely together. A great way to experience the glass artwork of Dale Chihuly without the bight prices at his Seattle museum. Of course not necessarily the same but a good alternative when pressed for time or money. One day we will need to come back at night and see the light plays across all this glass.

    Beautiful Glass
Very interesting bridge with Chihuly glass works. When we were there it had just started raining. We walked to the bridge in a drizzle. When we got under the glass art ceiling area the rain really started coming down. Fortunately it kept us dry. We didn’t have bright sun which I think would have helped all the glass works. Worth a stop if you are in Tacoma.
