Great Visit During Lent!

I happened to travel to Spokane for business during Lent. I was lucky enough to arrive on a Saturday night, enabling me to attend Mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. What a blessing! I absolutely loved the two pedestals at the front of the altar, which were there during Lent. one had the Crown of Thorns while the second had three nails as symbols of the crucified Christ. The rest of the church was also beautiful. After such a wonderful opportunity, I left feeling refreshed and ready for the busy work week. Praise God!

    Beautiful Music
We were staying at the Spokane Club and decided to drop into the 11:00 mass before leaving town. I sat in the back row (I'm neither Catholic not christian). I overheard the priest say to the alter boy "make sure you wait until the song is over before you approach the altar because I love this song." At first I thought it odd, but quickly realized what he meant once the music started. If you want to hear beautiful hymns on a beautiful pipe organ then it is worth an experience. Also, it is located in a beautiful little corner of Spokane,

Magnificent cathedral interior can be cured of recent changes
This is a lovely cathedral, except for the inexplicable and horrible interior changes from the 1970s. Among other things, the acres of bright blue indoor/outdoor carpet and an enormous, concrete Greek cross looming over the interior defy description they are so ugly. However, the stained glass windows alone are worth the visit. The good news is that the 70s changes are curable and the cathedral can be brought back to its original magnificence.
