Cascade Pass / Sahale Arm Trail, Washington, United States

5.0 (9 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Marblemount Hiking & Camping Tours • Day Trips

Incredible scenery

This was a challenging hike in terms of out and back distance, traversing rocks across the trail, and avoiding mosquitos - but it was so worth it! The views were incredible and we were lucky to get to observe a few marmots and a couple of goats at the pass. It’s a special place.

The best hike of “the best hikes”
Even from the parking lot, we were amazed at the views! Several potholes on the long, gravel drive but no issues for average rental cars. I understand what everyone means by monotonous switchbacks since there are almost 40 of them! Once you get past those, we saw amazing views on the steep hillside climb with beautiful fall colors! We made it just past Doubtful Lake (there’s a small path to the left that leads over a hill and into a bowl that offers nearly pano views if you don’t want the additional 3 mi RT to the Sahale glacier). Go all the way if you can, but we had hiked 10 mi the previous day. Hands down the better hike over Blue Lake and Maple Pass! One last tip: don’t overdress as you heat up quick and it’s not “that” cold at the Pass—we ended up carrying most of our layers.
